Reports from Dubai: Meeting with INSOL

January 27, 2016
By Paul Casey Greetings from Dubai!  I won’t mention the weather. I just returned from a liaison meeting with INSOL’s President, Vice-President and senior staffers to share with them the CAIRP view of the world. As I hope you know, CAIRP is a very meaningful Member Association of INSOL and our news and views are always well received by INSOL International leadership. I reported on our 2015 Strategic Plan refresh and our three action themes of Promote, Advocate and Educate.  For Promote, my report included news of our newly minted and approved name, Licensed Insolvency Trustee, our work on branding and developing member tool kits to “Make the Change!”, and our general objective or promoting CAIRP among like-minded associations, the OSB and CPA Canada. For advocacy, I reported on our study and business-case development for improvement to the Tariff, and our preparedness for further legislative amendment to the BIA, CCAA and CBCA. For Educate, I shared our efforts with respect to our continuous improvement of our educational programs and the new Task Force to review our exclusive qualification program. We also had a good discussion about broadening our training and continuing education programs to enhance our members’ value-add to restructuring situations. We discussed Canada’s meaningful representation among the INSOL Fellows and the Younger Members Committee, and especially how to integrate these groups with Canadian practitioners as much as possible. For the future, perhaps an INSOL event in Canada for the Fall of 2017? Board meetings next. Paul Casey, CPA, CA, CIRP, is Past Chair of CAIRP and attended INSOL’s Annual Regional Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from January 24-26
