Job Description / Duties
Your Role as a BIA Counsellor:
We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified BIA Counsellor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing counselling services under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA), helping clients understand their financial situation, explore debt relief options, and create actionable plans for financial recovery. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial counselling, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of the insolvency process.
Responsibilities:
Client Counselling: Provide one-on-one counselling sessions to clients dealing with financial difficulties, helping them understand their options under the BIA, including bankruptcy and consumer proposals.
Assessment: Evaluate clients’ financial situations, including income, expenses, assets, and debts, to determine the most appropriate course of action.
Education: Educate clients on budgeting, credit management, and financial planning to help them regain financial stability and avoid future financial difficulties.
Documentation: Assist clients in preparing and submitting all necessary documentation related to their insolvency process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Support: Provide ongoing support to clients throughout the insolvency process, offering guidance and reassurance as they navigate their financial recovery journey.
Compliance: Ensure all counselling services are conducted in accordance with the BIA and other relevant regulations.
Collaboration: Work closely with our team of Licensed Insolvency Trustees and other professionals to provide comprehensive support to clients.
Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with changes in the BIA and related legislation, as well as best practices in financial counselling.
Qualifications / Required Skills
BIA Certification: Must be a certified BIA Counsellor with experience in providing counselling under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
Education: A degree or diploma in finance, accounting, social work, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in financial counselling, insolvency, or a related area.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information in an easy-to-understand manner.
Empathy: Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and non-judgmental approach to client care.
Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple clients and tasks efficiently, with strong attention to detail.
Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using financial software and other digital tools required for client management and documentation.
