Associate Justice Alexander Ilchenko, Superior Court of Justice
Associate Justice Alexander Ilchenko is an accomplished legal professional with extensive experience in bankruptcy, insolvency, and restructuring law. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Carleton University and his Bachelor of Laws, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Ottawa. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1993, he became a Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law specialist in 2008. Before serving as Senior Counsel at Pallett Valo LLP, Justice Ilchenko has worked with prominent firms, including Lang Michener, Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP, and McMillan LLP. His practice included representing trustees, receivers, and creditors, appearing before the Toronto Commercial List and other courts. He has held leadership roles in the Ontario Bar Association and The Advocates’ Society and has been an instructor and advisor on legal reform panels. Since 2021, he has been an Associate Justice at the Ontario Superior Court and Registrar in Bankruptcy.

Associate Justice Sam Rappos, Superior Court of Justice
Associate Justice Sam Rappos was appointed to the Bench on March 9, 2023. Associate Justice Rappos was called to the bar in 2005 as a lawyer. He practiced in the Insolvency & Restructuring and Litigation practice groups at Chaitons LLP from 2013 to 2023, becoming a partner in 2019. Before that, he was an associate at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. Associate Justice Rappos was a member of the executive branch of both the OBA and the CBA’s Insolvency Law sections, serving as chair of the OBA’s Insolvency Law section from 2019-2020. Associate Justice Rappos has spoken and written extensively about bankruptcy and insolvency law. His work has been published in a wide variety of publications, most recently in the Annual Review of Insolvency Law 2022.
