Double Feature: Anatomy of a Scam and Ethics

August 30, 2022

Double Feature is LIVE on August 30th.

Anatomy of a Scam, 12pm-1pm ET
Ethical Issues for Insolvency Practitioners, 1:15pm-2:45pm ET

We are introducing a new offering to the National Webinar Series – the Double Feature!

The Double Feature will provide two live sessions back-to-back on August 30th from 12pm-2:45pm ET. This provides you with the opportunity to earn 2.5 hours of MPD in a single day! Please see below for more information. Both sessions will make use of live polling so be prepared to get interactive.

Session One: Anatomy of a Scam

Meet “Carl” (not his actual name) – a bankrupt who is currently recovering from a romance scam that cost him over $500,000.00, including his retirement savings and vehicle. Listen to a Trustee walk through his story and learn how and why romance scams work. Consider the potential impact of these frauds on the insolvency system. Think you can identify which personalities are most likely to be scammed? Learn how research has discovered that victims are anything but ‘typical’. You will take away valuable information applicable to your practice – how to discuss your suspicions if you think a client is being scammed, what your client should do about the scam and what steps they can take to recover financially and emotionally. Finally - you get to decide – should Carl get his automatic discharge from bankruptcy, or should the Trustee oppose – where a debtor has made financial decisions with his heart, not his head.

This session qualifies for 1 hour of MPD.

This webinar has been approved for 1 hour by the Law Society of British Columbia.
